SUMMARY:2021 SaskPower Small Modular Reactors (SMR) Project
DESCRIPTION:Presents........\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSmall Modular Reactors (SMR) Project\n\nSaskPower is on track to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from power generation in Saskatchewan by at least 50 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030. We're now aiming for net zero GHG emissions by 2050 or earlier. To achieve this\, we're evaluating the full range of zero-emissions options\, including nuclear power from small modular reactors (SMRs). Nuclear power produces zero carbon emissions which means SMRs could be a vital tool in the fight against climate change.\n\nSaskPower is now in the first year of a multi-year planning phase to develop SMRs in the province. A decision to build an SMR won't be made until 2029 but to keep SMRs as an option for the mid-2030s\, we're advancing the planning phase. \n \n\nCurious about nuclear power and what's involved in an SMR project? Join us on for a virtual Lunch 'n' Learn with SaskPower. Bring your questions and an appetite for respectful dialogue with SaskPower's SMR project team.
